The products we use and the world we know are constantly changing and innovating. Our cars are a prime example of technological innovation at work.

An automobile is pretty simple as a concept. You push the pedal, it goes. You hit the brake, it (hopefully) stops. You turn the wheel, the car turns, and so on. Inside that hulk of metal, however, there’s a lot going on.

Beyond The Price Tag http://kremtronicz.com/beyond-the-price-tag.html http://kremtronicz.com/beyond-the-price-tag.html I’ve been thinking about and planning this post for some time, because this topic is near and dear to my heart. In our busy, crazy, bumbling lives, we tend to take little mental shortcuts to try and keep the noise down.

One convenient shortcut that I think hurts a lot of people in the long run is the tendency to make purchasing decisions based primarily on price without acknowledging or considering the intangibles offered by the different options.

Perhaps an example is in order. kRemtronicz offers web design, graphic design, and search engine optimization services. So do a lot of other companies. On the outside, it may seem like kRemtronicz and Provider B do the same thing, therefore the main differentiator is price. For the harried consumer, it makes sense to go with the lower bid. It’s the same product after all, right?

Is Twitter Overrated? http://kremtronicz.com/is-twitter-overrated.html http://kremtronicz.com/is-twitter-overrated.html Twitter IconNow before you go and scream “YES!” at the top of your lungs, let me give you my opinion on the matter: Yes.

But with caveats.

I think Twitter is highly overrated for a large majority of the population. The truth is that most of us are just not interesting enough or clever enough to justify posting regular 140-character updates about our lives. I’m sorry to break this to you, but I don’t really care what you had for lunch, or that you are stuck in traffic, or that it’s cold in Minnesota today. I certainly hope you would pay the exact same lack of attention to the minutia in my life.

The Kindle Fire Predicament http://kremtronicz.com/the-kindle-fire-predicament.html http://kremtronicz.com/the-kindle-fire-predicament.html I have recently found myself in a bit of an emotional holdup; replace the screen on my Asus EEE netbook or purchase a Kindle Fire when they are released on November 15. No, iPad 2 just isn't an option for two primary reasons: 1. the cost is ridiculous for what it does (or doesn't do) and 2. refer to 1.

As a writer, productivity is my main concern in this decision. However, as a consumer, entertainment and sex appeal are psychologically out of my control, thereby allowing me to justify hasty and ridiculous decisions, which is likewise a part of being a writer.

I should add a note here: replacing a netbook monitor is a fairly easy task, so installation time is minimal and will not be a part of this externalized yet internal debate.

For those tech lovers out there like us it is simply amazing, even for just a concept. So here it is: a Mozilla Labs (a division of Mozilla, the company responsible for Firefox and Thunderbird), "community-driven mobile concept," as originally titled by the Mozilla Labs' director, Pascal Finette. It is so good I believe you have never seen anything like this out there; not even with the "almighty" iPhone.

How to Clean Your Browser Cache the Easy Way http://kremtronicz.com/how-to-clean-your-browser-cache-the-easy-way.html http://kremtronicz.com/how-to-clean-your-browser-cache-the-easy-way.html Clean Browser CacheI work with a lot of clients on a daily basis and customer service and attention to detail are key components of the success of our company. While working on a website, changes usually don't take place until the cache is cleaned up. For example, if an image is uploaded and inserted on a blog post from last month, and the cache settings are in place, it is likely that until the cache is cleaned up the image will not show up. Why? Well, in simple terms the cache works as a hidden storage place for images and other goodies so the pages load faster. However, I usually get the same, expected question from clients when I tell them to clean it up before they check the recent changes made to their website: "How do I clean my browse's cache?" When I understand that most regular users don't really pay attention to the technicalities of the Internet, and I don't blame them, it is important to know what the cache is, in general terms, and how one can clean it up regardless of their browser of preference.

Kremtronicz 2.0 http://kremtronicz.com/kremtronicz-2-0.html http://kremtronicz.com/kremtronicz-2-0.html The world revolves around constant change, and so does kRemtronicz. It is no mystery that, for the most part, things get better as they age, and so does kRemtronicz. When we started we had a vision which we keep to this date: offer the best genuine, person-to-person service possible, priced right: We have evolved into what we are calling "kRemtronicz 2.0." Thanks to constant suggestions from friends, clients, and our families, we have slowly but steadily evolved to become a better company. Our upcoming designs (some already on their way), which are the reason of this post, will have that "wow-y" effect without crossing the it's-too-fancy boundaries.

This means more work for us for the exact same price, and it is worth every minute.

10GUI: A New Approach to Efficient Computing http://kremtronicz.com/10gui-a-new-approach-to-efficient-computing.html http://kremtronicz.com/10gui-a-new-approach-to-efficient-computing.html While browsing the Internet I stumbled upon a video that really opened my eyes. Computers are amongst us in our everyday lives and they have definitely changed the way we do practically everything. However, despite all the different advances on many of the components of a standard computer, the mouse approach and way of use per se has never changed. It is a "point and click" procedure we repeat over, and over, and over again. When this is something that is relatively easy to do (and for several times each session), it would be cool to have a way to expand the use of the mouse in a way that would make computing easier than ever. Well, there IS a revolutionary new way that might change the way we do everything. I would not be surprised if I see this on Best Buy's shelves in a few years.

What Computers are Best: Macs or PCs? http://kremtronicz.com/what-computers-are-best-macs-or-pcs.html http://kremtronicz.com/what-computers-are-best-macs-or-pcs.html Computer KeyboardIt is not a secret to anybody that this is one of the most asked questions in the computer world: What computer is best, a MAC or a PC? Usually the response is "MACs are better, and PCs are not." To this I usually don't respond, because it is absurd to think only MACs are good, or I simply said "it is up to you to decide." However, I was never satisfied with any of these answers. They give you no real insight into what really makes a MAC or a PC THE choice for you to buy one, and neither finishes the, what seems, never ending MAC and PC fans fight. A few days ago someone said in my personal Facebook account that "Windows sucks. MACs are the way to go;" and this is what really triggered today's post...

SEO Gone Wrong - Case 1 http://kremtronicz.com/seo-gone-wrong-case-1.html http://kremtronicz.com/seo-gone-wrong-case-1.html A few days ago we were asked to create one of our free web analysis reports for a client. Since we are here to help everyone succeed, we jumped quickly onto our task to get the report done and emailed in a couple of days. This report, by the way, shows general yet important clues that let the client know if there's any problem (or not) with their site optimization-wise. We check URLs, images, web pages' ranking, and a few other aspects of what website optimization comprises (NOTE: Website optimization is not SEO [search engine optimization], but a branch of it instead).

Right after the client received it, he emailed us back to tell us that he had "paid for professional SEO" but he needed to confirm that a few things he paid for were done (red flag number one: why would a client verify a service?). At this point we had to mention that his website did not go through what this "company" told him they were going to do--at least not completely. However, this is just the beginning of a chain of events that helped us get the idea for this week's blog post: SEO gone wrong (actually, we should say "SEO" because that service was not even fully performed). ]]>

This "magical" tool would not only help me fix my mom's computer remotely, it was also a piece of cake to install for my 57 year old, lovely mother. I was impressed and the "fix" went well, we practically had no time wasted (unlike when we got LogMeIn to work for her over the phone), and it made me realize I had a great tool I could continue using to help her in whatever she needed. Yeah, yeah, we know... there are many out there. But, how do you guarantee that what you get, whether is freeware, shareware, or "payware" is worth your time and computer stability? We have tried several in the past, yet we had not tried one that specifically targets the registry, is extremelly quick, and also detects 25%+ more "stuff" within the registry--until now.

Digeus Software, a fast-growing software company, has a line of quality, well-priced products to keep your computer clean and secure, and also a lightling-fast registry cleaner. We could not believe how quick and reliable it is until we tested it alongside another of our favorite cleaners: CCleaner. The name of the program is Digeus Registry Cleaner, and while it is not free like other programs out there, it is well worth the price.

Testing Windows 7 for the First Time - Part 1 http://kremtronicz.com/testing-windows-7-for-the-first-time.html http://kremtronicz.com/testing-windows-7-for-the-first-time.html San Diego Web DesignA few weeks ago we talked about why Windows XP rocks, Vista not-so-much, and why Windows 7 must be a "test-before-you-buy" operating system. We had the pleasure to get a copy with an official key from Microsoft to test the upcoming operating system.

So we went ahead and created a partition on one of our newest, fastest computers and began to install Microsoft latest in it. The first thing you will notice is the fancy looking new layout: unlike XP's blue-based installation theme, Windows 7 has a very nice, easy to understand, fancy look. Continuing with the installation, it went pretty fast as in less than 20 minutes we had Windows running in our 100GB partition. The finalization of the instllation process goes really smooth, and it really can be followed by most mortals. Then came the welcome message and in a matter of seconds we were ready to go with Windows 7...

Data Backup - When Once is Not Enough http://kremtronicz.com/data-backup-when-once-is-not-enough.html http://kremtronicz.com/data-backup-when-once-is-not-enough.html We worry about our clients data and this is why we back everything up. All our clients feel safe knowing that if there's anything wrong going on with their site, they can always come back to us for help as we can't only fix their problem but we have a backup of all their files in case of emergencies. We thought that backing up the data once was not enough and we have made enhancements to make sure we backup their data not once but twice. This might be a "no brainer" for some clients, but some others are simply not aware of problems that can indeed affect their sites (i.e. hackers), and this is why kRemtronicz takes over their website's security so they can worry about other stuff like their next vacation destination.

Another feature of our commitment to the best service possible.

Joomla! Website Security - Protect Your Site Today! http://kremtronicz.com/joomla-website-security-protect-your-site-today.html http://kremtronicz.com/joomla-website-security-protect-your-site-today.html San Diego Website SecurityA few weeks ago I was contacted by lady (now a current client) with a website problem: her Joomla! site had been hacked. Not once but twice! When this is not a pretty experience for Joomla! (or any) website owners, it is fairly common. Hackers out there are targeting websites for a few reasons, and one of them is fun because they know a lot of websites are not following the basic rules of security. And when in our opinion any site cannot be 100% secure since there are new threats every day (just as an antivirus cannot make your computer 100% safe), there are of course ways to protect a Joomla! website as much as possible to prevent hackers to get access to it.

How to Protect Your Joomla! Site

You now know securing your Joomla! site is important, but now what? If you are brave enough to take charge of your database drive website's security, then you should follow a few guidelines in order to protect or enhance the security of your site (NOTE: We are just mentioning what you need to do to protect your Joomla! site. If you want to read the technical "whys" go to the documentation area):
